UPSCALE ART GALLERY GIVES NEW MEANING TO POP UP SHOP

Georgia’s never seen a pop up shop like this before! The Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art is launching its inaugural show house project this May, a home adjacent to a house of another kind: an art and jewelry gallery. For just three weekends, an upscale collection will be galleried in a beautiful historic home and available for sale, with 30% of proceeds benefitting the nonprofit art museum.

“The committee reviewed over 250 pieces of art and jewelry and based our selection on each piece’s beauty and uniqueness,” said Anna Arnold, Lawrence House Art & Jewelry Gallery chair. “All submissions were exceptional and although the decisions weren’t easy, we are very excited about the final collection. We have put together an eclectic assemblage.”

Shopaholics and jewelry junkies alike will enjoy 50 unique pieces by nine designers ranging from just $20 to $220. Art aficionados will stroll through a gallery of 80 paintings, sculptures, mixed media work, photography, and pastels ranging from $105 to $8,000.

The gallery will be exhibited in the historic Lawrence House, a home thought to be one of Marietta’s oldest, circa 1870. The historic walls will showcase everything from abstract acrylic mixed media pieces that would look at home in a trendy city loft to country oils that would add warmth to a sunny, southern breakfast nook. Fanciful pins featuring the Eiffel Tower and pink onyx gold earrings will be found on display.  An abbreviated gallery of some of the works is available on the show house’s Facebook page at www.Facebook.com/ArtDesignShowHouse.

The Art & Design Show House is brought to the community by the Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art—a non-profit organization – and all proceeds benefit the museum and the arts. The project was made possible by the Atlanta Journal Constitution, SCANA Energy, Xfinity, and AKM Enterprises, the developer that provided both homes in the Walnut Grove Subdivision.

Presenting sponsor of the Art & Design Show House, SCANA Energy supports nonprofit initiatives that improve the quality of life in the Georgia communities it serves.

“SCANA Energy is proud to partner with the Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art to provide this wonderful addition of culture and design to Cobb County,” said Simone McKinney of SCANA Energy. “As a leading natural gas provider, we are always trying to work in a positive way with nonprofit organizations throughout the metro Atlanta area and statewide. The Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art is a great partner organization.”

The Art & Design Show House and Lawrence House Art & Jewelry Gallery will be open to the public for three weekends from Saturday, May 7 through May 22. The show house is unique in that its designers were asked to let local, original art inspire a room’s design instead of the design directing the art selections. Tickets can be purchased for $15 in advance at www.ArtAndDesignShowHouse.com or for $20 at the door. One admission includes both the tour of the show house and the Lawrence House Art Gallery located at 21 Whitlock Drive. Show house hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Fridays; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays; 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 8 & Sunday, May 15; and 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 22.
