Something is missing right in the middle of Glover Park!

Glover Park fountain to undergo restoration 2/21/2011 The popular fountain at the center of Glover Park on the Marietta Square will be removed the week of February 21 for a complete restoration. Robinson Iron, the original manufacturer, will transport the fountain to Alabama for 4-6 weeks so the internal and external parts can be fully restored. The fountain will return to the Square by the first week of April, in time for the many popular events and activities that gear up at the end of the month. Marietta Rotarians -sous chefs for The Walker School’s Interact Club

On January 27, 2011 the Rotary of Marietta Club Rotarians Chris Gruehn, Bret Tyler and Dale Covington teamed with seven high school students from the Interact Club at The Walker School in bringing the first dinner of the new year to approximately 50 guests at the Extension. Sera Kim, Co-President of the Interact Club, oversaw the meal’s preparation and service. Helping Sera were Jaemin Yoon, Bianca Desai, Elizabeth Kacer, Kyle Rehl, Michael Leithood and Stephanie Will. Everyone bowed their heads as Michael said grace before all dived into a delicious meal of fried chicken, macaroni-and-cheese and green beans seasoned with bacon and chili tomatoes. City honors 102 year-old resident, Eloise Morris Wright

(2/9/2011) The city of Marietta honored long-time resident Eloise Morris Wright today for the impact she has made on our community throughout history. Wright was born in 1909 and celebrated her 102nd birthday this year. She served as the first black manager for public housing in Marietta at Lyman Homes and Fort Hill. She became a member of Turner Chapel AME Church in 1917 and served as music director for 42 years. Because of segregation, Wright wasn’t able to attend public school after the seventh grade. She enrolled in Morris Brown College at the age of 13 and completed her education at the college in 1928. She was married to the late Clifton Wright for 70 years and they have one daughter, Joy W. Holiday. Wright organized Marietta’s first black Girl Scout troop. … Read entire article »

A grand old tree is no accident, Marietta Tree Keepers plant on purpose!

Trees are really cool, literally.  They are cool to look at and they produce shade which helps keep things cool in the summer.  They do cool things to reduce pollution and control water runoff.  And when it’s cool outside, it’s the perfect time to plant them. It’s during this time of year when Marietta Tree Keepers (MTK) is busy hosting planting events to get trees in the ground.  For the hundred plus volunteers that make up the organization, it’s a great time to get out of the house and take in some fresh air, exercise and good vibrations, while making a big difference to the local environment. History museum receives certification to apply for Air Force aircraft

The National Museum of the U.S. Air Force in Dayton, Oh., recently certified the Marietta Museum of History, which will allow the museum’s aviation wing to apply for and possibly receive aircraft from the Air Force. The new planes would supplement military and civilian aircraft already at a 15-acre park, located at the corner of Atlanta Street and South Cobb Drive, which visitors are invited to come see Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. “Efforts to build and expand the aviation wing are underway,” museum director Dan Cox said. He hopes the public will be able to see more progress on the aviation wing soon.
